The Massachusetts Council on Economic Education (MCEE) was created
in 1950 to provide teacher education on economic issues. Since 1980,
it has been a volunteer led organization delivering teacher workshops
through Centers for Economic Education at Bridgewater State College
and Salem State College.
The MCEE, as an affiliate of the National Council on Economic Education,
maintains a strong platform for teacher training. The National Council
developed the national voluntary standards for economics, which were
then used as the foundation for the Massachusetts standards in the
Social Studies Curriculum Frameworks. The National Council publishes
classroom tested materials and strategies for teachers and students
and then conducts evaluation, assessment, and research on all materials.
This process provides teachers with a high degree of comfort that
the materials are both relevant to teaching and easy to implement
in the classroom.
Our statewide network of offices conducts conferences, workshops, and graduate courses for teachers and also performs research on a variety of economic topics."
