![]() Margret Brooks Dr. Margaret Brooks was appointed President of the Massachusetts Council on Economic Education in September 2007. She is a graduate of Brown University, where she earned her Doctorate, Master’s, and Bachelor’s degrees in Economics. She is also Chairperson and Professor of Economics at Bridgewater State College. Prior to her appointment as MCEE President, she served as Director of Bridgewater’s Center for Economic Education since 1993. Margaret is the author of numerous publications relating to the teaching of economics, a presenter at many national and regional conferences, the principal investigator for more than 30 grants, and an active promoter of economic and financial literacy in Massachusetts. She is married to Robert D. Brooks. |
![]() Stewart Dew Stewart Dew is a banking professional with 20+ years of industry experience. He received his BS in Commerce from the University of Virginia and his MBA from Vanderbilt’s Owen School. He is also a member of the IMA and holds the CFM Certified Financial Manager designation from that organization. Currently he is a Senior Vice President and Finance Director for Sovereign Bank’s NE Franchise including Retail and Commercial Lines of Business and Sovereign’s Corporate Services Group which provides back-office support across the bank. Functionally, he leads a team whose responsibilities include budgeting, accounting close and policy support, financial planning, and analysis for the business line. Stewart has been active as a teacher and guest lecturer for Junior Achievement, Memphis University, the New England Aquarium’s “Beach Teach Program,” and the American Bankers Association. Through the ABA, he has taught numerous on-line courses covering banking, economics, and financial management. In the community, Stewart performed volunteer work as a coach for numerous youth soccer teams and inner city high school tennis teams. He has also volunteered as a consultant to several community based entrepreneurial organizations. He currently remains an active vestry member of his church. Stewart and his wife presently live in North Easton, MA with their daughter and son. |
![]() Cathy Minehan Cathy Minehan recently served as the President of the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston from 1994 through 2007. She now directs an economic consulting practice, Arlington Advisory Partners, in Boston. Ms. Minehan is very active in civic and community affairs. She serves on the boards of many professional and educational organizations, including the Boston Private Industry Council, the Boston Municipal Research Bureau, Jobs for Massachusetts, the New England Council, the Boston Public Library Foundation, and the Massachusetts Business Roundtable. She is a trustee of the University of Rochester and Bentley College and serves on the board of advisers of the Carroll School of Management at Boston College. |
![]() Howard Berkenbilt Howard Berkenblit is a partner in the Boston office of Sullivan & Worcester LLP, and co-leader of the firm’s securities and corporate finance group. He focuses on counseling public and private companies involved in equity and debt financings, and ongoing corporate governance and disclosure matters, stock exchange listing standards and Sarbanes-Oxley Act compliance. He has written articles and spoken on many topics including Sarbanes-Oxley and a range of securities law issues impacting U.S. and foreign companies. Mr. Berkenblit previously served as senior corporate counsel of Stream International Inc., a provider of customer relationship management services. He is a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania, and he received his law degree from Boston College Law School. Mr. Berkenblit is the co-chair of the Boston Bar Association Securities Law Committee and also a member of the board of directors of the Men’s Associates of Hebrew Senior Life. Mr. Berkenblit and his wife currently live in Sharon, MA with their two daughters. |
![]() Scott Guild Scott Guild is the Director of Economic Education at the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston. He has held this position since 2000. Prior to taking this position he was a Senior Manager in the State and Local Government Strategy Practice at Andersen Consulting where he provided expert consulting services based upon his twenty-three years as a public school teacher and administrator. He holds a Bachelors Degree in Government from Harvard College and a Masters Degree in Educational Administration from Cambridge College. He has served on the advisory boards of The Boston History Innovation Collaborative and the Massachusetts Money Management program. |
![]() Judith Heine Judy Heine, former Social Studies Department Chair at Canton High School, retired in 2002 after 35 years of teaching. Along with World and US History, she taught Grade 12 Electives in Asian Studies and Economics. In 1987, she traveled to Japan as part of a delegation of MA educators, sponsored by the US-Japan Foundation and the Five College Center for East Asian Studies. She received a Fulbright to study in China in Summer 1990, and returned in 1998 as part of a delegation of MA teachers with Primary Source. In 2003 she was Regional Finalist in the NASDAQ National Teaching Awards, sponsored by Goldman Sachs and the National Council on Economic Education. As a Past President of the Massachusetts Council for Social Studies and Secretary for the South Shore Social Studies Supervisors, she continues to promote MCEE’s mission to train classroom teachers in Economics and assist them in incorporating Economic concepts into the existing curriculum. Now that she is retired, she also has time for golf and travel. |
