Massachusetts Council on Economic Education

Council History

The Massachusetts Council on Economic Education (MCEE) is now celebrating its 60th anniversary year. The MCEE was the first Council to be formed within the national network in 1950, and it has a long established history of dedication to excellence in the teaching of economics. MCEE is a registered 501 (c)3 non-profit corporation that delivers teacher workshops and economic education educational services through its two Centers for Economic Education at Bridgewater State College and Salem State College.

The MCEE, as an affiliate of the Council for Economic Education (CEE) http://www.councilforeconed.org/network/network.php, maintains a strong platform for teacher training. CEE developed the national voluntary standards for economics, which were then used as the foundation for the Massachusetts standards in the Social Studies Curriculum Frameworks. http://www.doe.mass.edu/frameworks/current.html

CEE publishes a number of classroom-tested materials and strategies for teachers and students and then conducts evaluation, assessment, and research on all materials. This process provides teachers with a high degree of comfort that the materials are both relevant to teaching and easy to implement in the classroom.
